The Art Museum Graubünden in Chur uses the Villa Garbald as a kind of “outpost”: within the framework of a small but select “art installation”, specially conceived for this location and running for more than a year, works from the museum’s own collection are presented in the intimacy of both private and communal rooms at the Villa Garbald as an integral part of the furnishings. Futhermore, these exhibitions not only constitute a meaningful contribution to the outlying area, but also promote a cultural exchange between the regions.

In 2004, on the initiative of the Fondazione Garbald, the Villa Garbald which was finished in 1864 by Gottfried Semper was carefully renovated and further extended by means of the Roccolo tower house, designed by the architects, Miller and Maranta. Since then, the Villa Garbald, with its unique Alpine-Mediterranean ambience, serves as a venue for retreats and scientific, cultural and business events.

There is a booklet in German, Italian and English to go with each art-installation.
