Thanks to the Fondazione Garbald (www.denklabor-villa-garbald.ch) the Villa Garbald, built by Gottfried Semper in 1863, was carefully renovated and augmented by the architects Miller and Maranta’s tower house Roccolo. Since then the ETH and the University of Zürich have been using the villa and the annex as a seminar centre and thought laboratory. The Bündner Kunstmuseum ministers the Denklabor Villa Garbald as an “outpost”: The aim is to cultivate an interdisciplinary dialogue between science and fine art. In an “art-installation” especially conceived for this location, works from the collection of the Bündner Kunstmuseum are presented in the intimacy of the private rooms as well as the community areas. These “art-installations” not only constitute a meaningful contribution to an outlying area and the valley of the Bergell, but they also foster a cultural exchange between the regions.
There is a booklet in German, Italian and English to go with each art-installation. Shop
Gaspare O. Melcher – percorsi concettuali / Conceptual Wanderings
October 16, 2009 to October 9, 2011
A small selection from the immense cosmos of works by Gaspare O. Melcher is presented. Coming from the lower Engadin Melcher first worked in Amsterdam but since 1975 has made his home in Vada, Italy. These are artistic wanderings with which also a cryptic even a subversive crossing of frontiers is suggested. The term “Percorso concettuali” points to the concise artistic strategy of the artist, which Melcher has consistently followed for almost forty years.
