The Bündner Kunstmuseum in Chur uses the Villa Garbald as a kind of “outpost”: within the framework of a small but select “art installation”, specially conceived for this location and running for more than a year, works from the museum’s own collection are presented in the intimacy of both private and communal rooms at the Villa Garbald as an integral part of the furnishings. Futhermore, these exhibitions not only constitute a meaningful contribution to the outlying area, but also promote a cultural exchange between the regions.
In 2004, on the initiative of the Fondazione Garbald, the Villa Garbald which was finished in 1864 by Gottfried Semper was carefully renovated and further extended by means of the Roccolo tower house, designed by the architects, Miller and Maranta. Since then, the Villa Garbald, with its unique Alpine-Mediterranean ambience, serves as a venue for retreats and scientific, cultural and business events (www.garbald.ch).
There is a booklet in German, Italian and English to go with each art-installation. Shop
Not Vital – Druckgrafische Werke
October 8, 2011 to October 6, 2013
Not Vital can be described as a truly “global” artist, for he does not just travel extensively, but also works on all continents, implements artistic concepts in Brazil and Nepal, pursues larger projects in Patagonia and Africa (Agadez) – and around three years ago, had a sculpturing studio built in Beijing. Nevertheless, the mental and physical source of inspiration for all his creations remains the Lower Engadin, where each year the artist expands his Parkin Not dal Mot park in Sent by adding one or two installations.
